We’re moving full speed ahead into the new year and what a busy first week it’s been. Let’s look back at some of the highlights:

2020 Kickoff Webcast

We started the week with our 2020 Kickoff Webcast. Hans and the leadership team shared their thoughts and priorities for this year which happens to be Verizon’s 20th as a company. Happy anniversary!

Christy Pambianchi told us about the new Stock Together program.

Mix and Match

Andy and his roommates learned about Mix and Match on Fios, which is disrupting the cable industry. Customers can now get internet and TV the way they want it. They can personalize their TV package by choosing their favorite channels and get a recommendation built to suit their needs.

No extra fees. No annual contracts. No surprises.

Best of CES

George was at CES in Las Vegas this week keeping tabs on all of the cool tech that will be coming out later this year, including many phones and other gadgets related to 5G.

Speaking of which, Consumer Group Leader Ronan Dunne announced at CES that we’ll be unveiling 20 - yes 20! - new 5G devices this year.

And a shout-out to our Vegas network team who made improvements from the airport to the convention center -- including giving show-goers a taste of the power of Verizon 5G.

BUILD event

In the spirit of our new purpose we’re kicking off a year-long series with our friends at BUILD to show how we’re moving the world forward together.

Our first event will be a live webcast on Friday, January 17, led by HR leader Christy Pambianchi, focusing on inspiring activism and the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.. We’ll hear how we can all be advocates for change, both on MLK Day and beyond. Whether it’s something small in our communities or contributing to reach the Verizon volunteer hours goal, every little bit can help make a difference. The event starts at 1 PM ET, and will be streamed on the BUILD site.

Australia

Finally, our thoughts remain with Australia as areas all around the continent continue the fight against the devastating bushfires. Verizon announced a $100,000 donation to the Australian Red Cross, as well as a $50,000 donation to WIRES, an emergency response program.

You can also donate to VtoV, our employee relief fund, to help our Australian teammates in their time of need.

Speaking of V Teamers stepping up… that includes Steven Bruce, a volunteer firefighter who’s been doing his job at Verizon by day and fighting the fires near Sydney with his son on nights and weekends. Thank you Steven for all that you’re doing.

That’s it for this week. Have a great weekend!
