More on Father's Day and National Safety Month. Plus, how we're celebrating Juneteenth and a spooky NYC event.

In today’s episode of Up To Speed Live, hosts Raquel Wilson and Jen Marin talked about all things Safety Month, myPlan, Father’s Day and more. Plus, learn about volunteer and discussion opportunities for Juneteenth.

Safety Pledge

You may have noticed that Raquel and Jen were “twinning” in their “beSAFE” shirts today – an important reminder, as June is National Safety Month. This is a great opportunity to re-dedicate ourselves to keeping the safety and health of the V Team and our families in mind.

As a reminder:

  • Pay attention to your surroundings
  • Identify potential safety hazards
  • Help each other stay SAFE (smart, aware, focused and equipped)

We encourage you to take advantage of the three new learning pathways in the learning portal that emphasize the importance of safety. For each pathway you complete, you’ll earn a digital badge for your work profile. Plus, if you complete at least two of these pathways by July 31, you’ll have a chance to win a “beSAFE” t-shirt of your own.

Visit VZWeb for an article with ideas on how to encourage your team members to be safe, incorporate safety into your team meetings, and recognize employees who demonstrate a commitment to safety.

Father’s Day Deals

This Sunday is Father’s Day, and we all love a good dad joke – and what better way to celebrate dads than to share some from our very own V Teamers. Jen went around the office asking folks to share their favorite dad jokes. Comment with your own dad jokes below!

If you’re still looking for that perfect Father’s Day gift, we’ve got fantastic options under $100, like the second generation Google Nest Hub, which is perfect for when dad is in the kitchen and needs some help with a new recipe.

And, at just $25 a line for 4 lines, Verizon’s myPlan allows everyone in the fam to join, save and customize their own plan, including dad. It’s our lowest price ever, and if you switch today, it comes with a three-year price guarantee.

If dad loves to shop, the Walmart+ perk gives fuel discounts & free shipping on Walmart online orders – even on fresh groceries. If your dad is more of a gamer, choose the +play perk and use it on Xbox Game Pass!

Learn more about myPlan and how you can get started today.

Verizon Home Internet

Moving can be a stressful process, but your internet doesn’t have to be. Get Verizon Home Internet plans for your new place, starting at $25/month, and with our best plans, choose between a $200 Home Depot gift card or a Stream TV Sound Bar, on us.

Juneteenth

Next Monday is Juneteenth, also known as Jubilee Day or Freedom Day. This U.S. federal holiday was signed into legislation by President Joe Biden in 2021 to commemorate the emancipation of enslaved African Americans. Juneteenth is an opportunity to reflect on how far the nation has come while acknowledging the ongoing pursuit of equality for all.

If you’re looking to volunteer, there are several events to choose from on the BOLD ERG page of the Citizen Verizon Volunteer Portal.

On Monday June 19th from noon to 1pm ET, join Verizon BOLD in conjunction with the Black Employee Resource Group Consortium for a Juneteenth discussion with SVP of Small & Medium Business Solutions Wendy Taccetta, as well as leaders from Microsoft, Samsung and more.

Auggie Award

Congratulations to our Technology and Product Development team for taking home the Auggie Award for Best Snapdragon Spaces App at the world’s biggest AR/VR event, AWE. The app is called The Future of Training, and it streams on AR glasses from the EDGE via a 5G wearable neckband that we co-created with Motorola.

The 5G wearable neckband enables cellular connectivity in the AR/VR market for headset vendors, in verticals including entertainment, manufacturing and education, and cinematic experiences and more.

myPlan drumbeat continues

Verizon has been all over the news lately, from local TV segments to pet shops, and one thing is clear: myPlan continues to be a howling success.

In 10 cities across the country, the Verizon local communications team teamed up with pet shops and a pet shelter to surprise pet lovers with their choice of perks for Fluffy and Fido, ranging from pet supplies to waiving adoption fees. In keeping with the theme of customer choice, we also teamed up with Marcus Cinemas to offer film buffs their choice of a movie and perks, with concessions on us.

myPlan continues to be the highlight of local TV and radio tech segments about summer travel, Father's Day gifts, moving to a new home and more. Be sure to keep an eye out, as we may be talking about myPlan soon at a station near you!

‘Walking Dead’ at our ‘Meet & Creep’ event in NYC!

If you stopped by our Bryant Park retail location in New York City yesterday, you may have wondered why there were so many zombies invading the store.

myPlan customers can sign up for our +play perk to watch the exciting new AMC series, "The Walking Dead: Dead City,” debuting Sunday, June 18.

In just an hour, more than 200 customers, fans – and, of course, zombies – showed up at the event, which was part of a citywide "Zombie Crawl," as the actors playing the undead also roamed other iconic NYC establishments, including Katz’s Deli and H&H Bagels.

Verizon Frontline refresh

This Sunday, Verizon Frontline, our advanced network and technology for first responders on the front lines, debuted a new television commercial, kicking off a total campaign refresh centered around a core message of: your mission is our purpose.

It showcases how Verizon Frontline helps first responders stay in control by being able to focus on their mission, not their connection; reinforcing that in the business of saving lives, reliability is everything.
