UPDATE: Providing Wide-Ranging Relief for Philippines in Wake of Typhoon Haiyan

UPDATE: FiOS TV customers can now view two premium Filipino channels for free through Nov. 30.  Viewers tuning into TFC/The Filipino Channel (1755) and GMA Pinoy TV (1756) will see real-time updates from the Philippines, allowing friends and relatives the opportunity to see up-to-the minute developments in areas impacted by Typhoon Haiyan.

To help with the global relief effort in the wake of Typhoon Haiyan, Verizon has committed a $100,000 grant to the American Red Cross Philippines Typhoon Appeal Fund, and the Verizon Foundation will match employees’ donations of $25 up to $1,000 to Save the Children.

In addition, to help customers connect with family and friends in the Philippines, Verizon will waive charges for wireline long-distance calls and postpaid wireless long-distance calls, text and multimedia messaging (applicable taxes and surcharges will still apply) to the stricken region from Nov. 8 to Dec. 7.

Verizon Wireless customers can help with relief efforts by making a $10 donation via text to any of the numbers listed below:

Customers who would like to give more can donate up to five times, up to $50 total.

Text messaging fees will be waived, and 100 percent of each donation goes directly to the organizations. Verizon Wireless customers who pay monthly bills will see their donations on the next regular monthly bill. For customers using the company’s prepaid services, donations will be deducted from customers’ prepaid balances.
