Welcome to the first BETA issue of the Verizon Weekly Comms Update, where we’ll bring you the stories about Verizon, our businesses, partners, technologies and people that are being reported throughout the US and, occasionally, around the globe.

Each week, we’ll bring you a couple national stories that include Verizon (this week, stories from USA Today on hurricane season, Teen Vogue on Mother’s Day gifts and PC Mag on our 5G startup lab), several from around the country (this week, from Asheville, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Seattle and Kearney, Nebraska) and a couple from the Verizon News Center that are getting significant traction.

We’ll draw attention to special topics, recap trends, or otherwise share cool stuff from Verizon’s communications team. While the Update itself is necessarily a look-back at the previous week, and when we can, we’ll also share big upcoming news items.

We’ll always provide you an opportunity to unsubscribe, but give us a shot. It could be informative – or at least moderately entertaining.

Without further ado . . . May is the nexus between Military Appreciation Month and Mother’s Day. Wireless leader Tami Erwin just launched a cool initiative, #VZMilitaryMoms. We’ve partnered with 15 online experts who are each recognizing a very deserving military mom with $1,000 Military Mom Tech Makeover. The program runs through Sunday – Mother’s Day – and winners will be announced next week. Tami’s LinkedIn post lays out the info and how to enter.

Also in the news this week – Get a first look at our new 5G incubator in Chelsea, NYC – at the Alley. With education partners from Columbia and NYU . . . and start-ups including BriefCam, Arvizio and LiquidSky, we’re fostering an ecosystem where people are getting dirt under their fingernails and building solutions for 5G speeds, latency & other capabilities that simply aren’t possible with today’s mobile networks.

Enjoy the read, click the links, share the stories. And thank you for letting us intrude on your Friday!
