ROCHESTER, NY — Verizon Wireless and the Rochester Rhinos are sponsoring a jersey auction to raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Western New York. The auction will take place this Saturday, September 9, at the Rhinos home playoff game at Frontier Field.
Twenty-six jerseys worn by the players during pre-game warm ups will be bid on by fans during the course of the game. The winning bidders will be announced at the conclusion of the game and called onto the field to receive their jerseys. All proceeds from the jersey auction will go to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Western New York.
"Verizon Wireless has been a proud supporter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation for nearly three years," said Tracy Nolan, president of Verizon Wireless' Upstate New York Region. "It's our pleasure to sponsor this jersey auction in partnership with the Rhinos and to support an organization that provides such a vital service to the children of Western New York."
Last year's jersey auction raised more than $5,000 for the Foundation. The mission of the Make-A-Wish Foundation is to grant the wishes of children with life-threatening illnesses and to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. The average cost to grant a wish for one of these children is $4,000.
