Verizon Wireless And Pinpoint Join To Offer The First Unified Wireless Search & Directory Engine For Mobile Users

BEDMINSTER, NJ — Verizon Wireless, the nation's largest wireless provider, today announced it will offer a unified search and directory engine for its mobile Internet access by collaborating with Pinpoint, a leading provider of mobile infrastructure software and applications. This agreement means it will be faster and easier for Verizon Wireless Mobile Web customers to search for wireless Web content and applications.

Using Pinpoint's Mobile Search & Directory, Verizon Wireless Mobile Web customers can conduct a search through Pinpoint's extensive listing of thousands of wireless Web sites and access simple, intuitive applications. Or customers can choose the menu-driven directory to locate pages and applications specifically created for the wireless Web. Pinpoint's technology is designed specifically for mobile devices so that customers have less to enter on the phone's keypad.

For example, to find a specific games site using the search engine, a user can type in the key word "games," or select the "games" category from the directory, and Pinpoint will display a list of matching sites in a menu format from which to select. In just a few clicks, and very little keypad typing, Verizon Wireless customers can quickly reach the home page of their favorite games site.

"Since we launched Mobile Web last year, we have focused on delivering to our customers a growing list of content and applications, a user friendly interface, and the tools to create a truly personal wireless Internet experience," said Gary Schulman, president of Verizon Wireless' Wireless Data and Internet Division. "Deploying Pinpoint's technology is another example of how we are helping our customers get the most out of their Mobile Web service by fostering an open, wireless environment."

Combined with Pinpoint's platform and the Verizon Wireless network—the most extensive and popular network in the United States—Mobile Web customers have access to a broad selection of mobile content and applications available across the Verizon Wireless digital network. Pinpoint's solution supports current as well as evolving standards for wireless Internet content and applications delivery. The Pinpoint service will be customized to Verizon Wireless-specific requirements, allowing customers to bookmark preferred sites directly to their Mobile Web service or by storing the URL at

"From the PC to mobile devices, our infrastructure search technology delivers the only unified solution for navigating the wireless Web," said Jud Bowman, president and co-founder of Pinpoint. "Partnering with a leading service provider like Verizon Wireless instantly provides mobile users with access to useful applications and services."

Mobile Web, launched in July 2000, combines the mobility of wireless communications with access to World Wide Web-based information and the ability to easily personalize that information. Mobile Web uses a simple intuitive format making it easy for the user to customize what they want to see on their handset. Users can customize either directly from their handset or via desktop using the Web site. The "MyVZW" Web site provides a personal home page enabling users to identify text message alerts they want sent to the handset as well as select only the Internet-based information they want.
