BELLEVUE, WA and BEDMINSTER, NJ — Verizon Wireless, the nation's largest wireless service provider, and InfoSpace, Inc. (NASDAQ: INSP), a provider of wireless and Internet software and application services, today announced that Verizon Wireless has launched a special offering for NCAA football fans. Mobile Web and Mobile MessengerSM customers can sign up starting today through Jan. 3, 2002 to receive scores during the college football bowl season.
Verizon Wireless customers can choose to receive scores at the game's end or at the end of every quarter as well as weather reports in cities where bowl games are held. The first NCAA football bowl game is on Dec. 18, 2001, and the final game is on Jan. 3, 2002. Today's news comes just over two months after the companies announced that Verizon Wireless had launched InfoSpace's baseball playoff alerts service.
To activate football bowl alerts, subscribers with digital service should log on to the Verizon Wireless Web site at www.MyVZW.com and follow the instructions to set up the college bowl alerts they want to receive.
"These information alerts are a great service for students, alums and other dedicated college football fans who cannot watch every game during the hectic holiday season," said John Stratton, chief marketing officer of Verizon Wireless. "Mobile Web customers were enthusiastic about October's baseball playoff alerts, and we are delighted to be working with InfoSpace again."
"Our latest alerts service for college bowl results is another example of InfoSpace's commitment to driving mobile data usage for valued partners such as Verizon Wireless. We are pleased to be providing Verizon Wireless with applications and services that are leading-edge, timely, personalized, and geared to increase subscriber loyalty," said Jan Claesson, executive vice president of wireless for InfoSpace. "Wireless alerts have been very popular with wireless users in North America, and we are pleased to support Verizon Wireless in leading the mobile data revolution."
Customers who have signed up for Verizon Wireless Mobile Web service will have alerts count against their monthly alert bundle.
