JERSEY CITY, NJ — The Filipino and Vietnamese Clubs at Dickinson High School recently completed a wireless phone recycling drive at the school to benefit victims of domestic violence.  The phones were donated to the Verizon Wireless HopeLineSM Phone Recycling Program, which collects no-longer-used phones to be refurbished, recycled or sold.  Proceeds are donated to domestic violence advocacy groups or used to purchase new phones for victims.

"This program allowed the students to take an active role on two fronts: they helped people dispose of old phones in an environmentally responsible way and, at the same time, they made a difference for victims of domestic violence," said James Burke, principal of Dickinson High School.   "By collecting phones at school, the Clubs made it easy and convenient for faculty, administrators and families to recycle their wireless phones."

Domestic violence prevention and education is Verizon Wireless' chief community focus.  Since 1995, Verizon Wireless has collected more than one million wireless phones for the benefit of domestic violence victims, including more than 60,000 in the New York metro area.  Phone donations are accepted year-round at all Verizon Wireless Communications Stores, including locations at the Newport Mall, Jersey Gardens Mall and in Secaucus at 3 Mill Creek Drive.
