BEDMINSTER, NJ — Verizon Wireless, the nation's largest wireless service provider, today announced it has been selected by IDG's Computerworld as one of the top workplaces for information technology (IT) professionals. The company is the only wireless service provider to make the list. This honor is part of the 10th annual Best Places to Work in IT survey, published in Computerworld's June 9, 2003 issue and online at Computerworld.com. In addition to praising Verizon Wireless for its employee benefits and training programs, the survey also recognized the company for its high percentage of women and minority IT managers and staff in its workforce.
Since 1994, Computerworld's annual "Best Places to Work in IT" feature has ranked the top 100 work environments for technology professionals, based on a comprehensive questionnaire regarding company offerings in categories such as benefits, diversity, career development, training and retention. In addition, this year Computerworld surveyed more than 11,500 IT workers for the list, and their responses factored heavily in determining the rankings.
"It is extremely rewarding that Verizon Wireless's Information Technology department has been recognized by Computerworld's Best Places to Work in IT survey," said Marc Reed, vice president of human resources for Verizon Wireless. "When employees are satisfied, it resonates not only internally, but also in the way we present ourselves to customers. The fact that IT workers contributed to the results of the survey make the recognition even more significant as it demonstrates that our investments in employee satisfaction have paid off in the best way possible."
"The companies we've named as Best Places to Work all make an effort to keep their IT workers focused and challenged, especially in hard economic times," said Maryfran Johnson, editor in chief of Computerworld. "Ample training opportunities; rewarding projects; flexible schedules; a sense of pride in the IT department the best employers use these key ingredients to build great IT work environments."
