Verizon Wireless Comments on Signing of Internet Tax Non-Discrimination Act
BEDMINSTER, NJ — Following the signing by President Bush of the Internet Tax Non-Discrimination Act, which prohibits taxes on Internet access, Verizon Wireless, owner and operator of the nation's most reliable wireless network, commended the new legislation and said:
"Verizon Wireless' 42 million customers deserve to access the Internet, download information and enjoy multimedia experiences free from unnecessary or discriminatory taxes. Wireless Internet access should be treated in the same tax-free way as Internet access through any other type of telecommunications service.
By signing the Internet Tax Non-Discrimination Act today, President Bush has ensured that taxes will not be imposed on any type of Internet access through at least November 2007. Verizon Wireless customers can today take full advantage of our innovative high-speed mobile data services -- including BroadbandAccess, NationalAccess and Get It Now® -- to work, learn and be entertained, knowing that there are no extra costs to access the Internet.
Verizon Wireless commends those public officials who are working to reduce and eliminate taxes on wireless consumers and we appreciate their efforts to foster growth and innovation in our highly competitive industry, especially U.S. Senators George Allen and Ron Wyden, and U.S. Representatives Christopher Cox and James Sensenbrenner, for their leadership on this important initiative."
