Wireless Phone Customers In Indianapolis, Indiana, Area Receive Improved Network Service

INDIANAPOLIS, IN — Verizon Wireless has activated two new cell sites and upgraded others across Indianapolis to improve wireless service for its growing number of customers throughout the area.

One new cell site improves digital coverage and provides additional capacity, enabling more residents and travelers to use their phones concurrently in the following areas:

  • At the Marion County Fairgrounds

  • Along the intersections of Interstate 465 and Interstate 74

  • Along Southeastern Avenue between Arlington and Hanna avenues

  • Along East Troy Avenue between Arlington Avenue and Interstate 74

The second new cell site improves digital coverage in the town of Cicero and the northeast portion of Hamilton County as well as along State Road 19 between Noblesville and Arcadia.

Upgrades to 20 other cell sites increase network capacity throughout the Indianapolis area including Fishers, Castleton, Greenwood, Franklin and Wanamaker.

All of these network improvements enable Verizon Wireless customers to experience fewer dropped calls and clearer reception while talking on their wireless phones, handling data applications (such as TXT and Picture Messaging) or downloading games and ringtones with the company's Get It Now® services.

"During the past year in the Indianapolis area, our customer base has grown and the average number of minutes our customers use their wireless phones has increased, resulting in a 30 percent growth in volume on our network," said Greg Haller, president—Indiana/Kentucky/Michigan Region, Verizon Wireless. "These network enhancements reflect our ongoing commitment to meet the growing needs of our customers and to provide them with the high quality of service they expect from Verizon Wireless."

The network improvements are part of Verizon Wireless' continuous effort to increase capacity and augment the quality of its wireless voice and data network in Indiana and across the country. Nationally, the company invests about $1 billion every 90 days to improve and expand what is already the most extensive wireless network in the United States. Approximately $103 million of this investment was spent in 2004 to stay ahead of the growing demand for Verizon Wireless products and services in Indiana.
