Verizon Wireless Enhances Service In The Town Of Speedway, Indiana

INDIANAPOLIS, IN — Just in time for the upcoming Indianapolis 500 on May 29 and the expected crowd of more than 400,000 fans, Verizon Wireless has activated a new cell site in the Town of Speedway that improves the company's digital network at West 16th Street and Georgetown Road and in the following areas:

  • Along 16th Street between Lynhurst Drive and Hulman Boulevard

  • Along 10th Street between Lynhurst Drive and Tibbs Avenue

  • Along Lynhurst Drive between 10th Street and Crawfordsville Road

The new cell site increases the strength of Verizon Wireless' network signal and call capacity, enabling more customers to use their wireless phones concurrently. As a result, Verizon Wireless customers will experience fewer dropped calls and clearer reception while talking on their wireless phones, handling data applications (such as TXT and Picture Messaging) or downloading games and ring tones with the company's Get It Now® services.

"Customers choose Verizon Wireless and stay with us because they know they'll get wireless service they can depend on-whether spending the day at the Indy 500 with thousands of racing fans or simply doing errands around town," said Greg Haller, president—Indiana/Kentucky/Michigan Region, Verizon Wireless. "Our company's continued investment in its wireless network and its focus on strong customer service are the drivers behind our industry-leading growth."

Activation of this new cell site is part of Verizon Wireless' continuous effort to increase capacity and augment the quality of its wireless voice and data network in Indiana and across the country. Since its inception, the company has consistently spent more than $4 billion annually-and more than $5 billion last year-to expand and enhance its network nationwide. Approximately $103 million of this investment was spent in 2004 to stay ahead of the growing demand for Verizon Wireless products and services in Indiana.
