Verizon Wireless Strengthens Network In Northern Central Illinois

PEORIA, IL — To stay ahead of growing demand for its voice, data and broadband services, Verizon Wireless has activated a new cell site in Glasford, Ill. to enhance its digital network coverage and capacity along major roadways connecting communities in eastern Fulton, southern Peoria and northwest Tazewell counties.

The new cell site increases network coverage and capacity along Route T9/24 between Canton and Pekin, as well as along Route 24 between the towns of Little America and Banner. Additionally, the new site improves signal penetration into area buildings. With this cell site now activated, Verizon Wireless customers will experience fewer dropped calls and clearer reception while talking on their wireless phones, handling data applications (such as TXT and Picture Messaging) or downloading games and ring tones with the company's Get It Now® services.

"Our customer base continues to grow in Illinois," said Tracy Nolan, president — Wisconsin/Illinois Region, Verizon Wireless. "This new cell site reflects our ongoing commitment to meet the growing needs of our customers and to provide them with the high quality of service they expect from Verizon Wireless."

Activation of this new cell site is a part of Verizon Wireless' ongoing effort to increase capacity and augment the quality of its wireless voice and data network in Illinois and across the country. Since its inception in 2000, the company has consistently spent more than $4 billion annually-and more than $5 billion last year-to expand and enhance its network nationwide. In 2004, the company spent more than $207 million on its network in Illinois.
