Wireless Phone Users In Muncie, Indiana Now Experience Even Clearer Reception And Fewer Dropped Calls

MUNCIE, IN — Verizon Wireless has installed three new cell sites in the Muncie area that expand coverage and increase capacity, enabling more customers to use their wireless phones concurrently to make calls, send and receive TXT and Picture Messages, and download games and ring tones, while enjoying clearer reception and fewer dropped calls.

These new cell sites enable Verizon Wireless to stay ahead of its growing customer base and increasing demand for its voice and data services in the following areas:

  • On the west side of Muncie

  • On the southwest part of Ball State University's campus

  • Along Tillotson Avenue between Hoyt Avenue and Jackson Street

  • Along Jackson Street between Tillotson Avenue and White River Boulevard

  • Along McKinley Avenue between Riverside Avenue and White River Boulevard

  • In Yorktown

  • Along State Road 32 between Interstate 69 and Muncie

"College students are among some of our heaviest users, and Ball State University students are no exception," said Greg Haller, president—Indiana/Kentucky/Michigan Region, Verizon Wireless. "Between their classes, study sessions, work and social lives, college students maintain very hectic schedules. Many of them find their wireless phones to be the most effective way to be reached by friends and family. We completed these upgrades to our wireless network to ensure that these busy students and all of our customers in the Muncie area will continue enjoying the reliable service they have come to expect from Verizon Wireless."

Reliable service is fundamental to customer loyalty, and Verizon Wireless boasts the highest customer loyalty in the industry. During the second quarter of 2005, only 1.2 percent of its customers disconnected their service, which is well below the industry average.

"The value we offer our customers is closely tied to our industry-leading customer retention," Haller said. "Wireless consumers today understand that value is not defined by price alone. A significant reason why our customers choose Verizon Wireless and stay with us is because we offer the nation's most reliable network."

These recent improvements in Muncie are part of Verizon Wireless' continuous effort to increase capacity and enhance the quality of its wireless voice and data network in Indiana and across the country. Since its inception in 2000, the company has consistently spent more than $4 billion annually-and more than $5 billion last year-to expand and improve its network nationwide. Approximately $103 million of this investment was spent in 2004 to stay ahead of the growing demand for Verizon Wireless products and services in Indiana.
