Verizon Wireless Makes Donation To Safe Haven Ministries in Michigan
GRAND RAPIDS, MI — Verizon Wireless is donating $5,000 to Safe Haven Ministries in Grand Rapids to help fund its domestic violence training and education program for area health care organizations. The program, called RAISE Hope (Raising Awareness, Informing, Supporting, and Educating the community on issues of domestic abuse), is designed to increase assistance to abused women and children by educating others to recognize signs of abuse and to respond appropriately.
"A critical part of the fight against domestic violence is helping others understand and recognize the issue-especially those who are in a position to assist victims," said Greg Haller, presidentMichigan/Indiana/ Kentucky Region, Verizon Wireless. "Safe Haven Ministries' RAISE Hope program does a great job educating people and organizations within the Grand Rapids area about this issue. We are proud to support this important initiative that is making the community a better place."
Domestic violence and other family safety organizations seeking funding can email Michelle.Gilbert@VerizonWireless.com for more information about how to apply for a grant.
In 2005, Verizon Wireless donated nearly $75,000 and hundreds of wireless handsets with free airtime to domestic violence organizations across Michigan.
