Verizon Wireless Introduces Broadband Network In Temple and Killeen, Texas

DALLAS, TX — Verizon Wireless has launched its high-speed broadband network in Temple and Killeen to better serve the concentration of tech-savvy residents and businesses, including the thousands of service men and women and medical professionals in the area. Local customers now have access to the latest high-speed business and entertainment services on their wireless phones, laptop computers and other wireless devices thanks to the expansion of Verizon Wireless' Evolution-Data Optimized (EV-DO) network.

The towns included in the expansion are Temple, Killeen, Belton, Morgan's Point Resort, Nolanville, Harker Heights and Salado. Central Texas was the first region in the state to benefit from Verizon Wireless' broadband network, with the EV-DO network first launching in Austin. The high-speed network expanded to Waco and the surrounding areas last month, as part of the company's $5 billion investment this year.

"From Scott & White's state-of-the-art medical facilities to the armored divisions at Fort Hood, Temple and Killen are full of residents and businesses with high-tech needs," said Luis M. Cruz, region president for Verizon Wireless. "Building on our continued network expansions in Central Texas, we are pleased to bring EV-DO to the Temple/Killeen area in an effort to provide the best high-speed data services to the local customers."

The Temple/Killeen launch involved installing high-tech wireless hardware and software in wireless transmission sites throughout the region and extends the Verizon Wireless EV-DO network to the area. The expansion runs from Interstate 35 at Berger Road south to FM 2268. From west to east, the EV-DO expansion reaches from the intersection of State Highway 53 and FM 2086 to the intersection of U.S. Highway 190 and Base Road.

BroadbandAccess allows customers to connect wirelessly to the Internet, download e-mail and applications, and log into their corporate servers via their laptop at broadband speeds. The technology provides mobile workers full access, productivity and security, just as if they were at their desks and attached via a high-speed wired connection, but with the freedom of true mobility.

With average connection speeds of 400-700 kilobits per second (kbps), users can download a 1 Megabyte e-mail attachment - the equivalent of a small PowerPoint® presentation or a large PDF file - in about 20 seconds.

The Verizon Wireless EV-DO technology was first introduced in Texas in Austin, and is available in the Dallas, Fort Worth, San Antonio, Houston, Victoria, Laredo, Sherman/Denison, Beaumont, Port Arthur, Orange, Bryan/College Station, Waco, Corpus Christi, Wichita Falls, Longview, Tyler and the Rio Grande Valley metro areas.

The Verizon Wireless V CAST service gives customers access to short video content, downloadable music, and cutting-edge 3D games on their mobile phones.
