Verizon Wireless Expands Memphis Area Wireless Broadband Network To Neighboring Counties And Cities
MEMPHIS, TN — Verizon Wireless announced today the company has expanded its Evolution-Data Optimized (EV-DO) third generation (3G) wide-area network to reach the towns of West Memphis, Marion, Hernando and Walls. Customers in metropolitan Memphis have enjoyed the high-speed business and entertainment-based services since December 2005 and today even more Verizon Wireless customers in neighboring Mississippi and Arkansas towns can access EV-DO.
"Due to the growing popularity of Verizon Wireless' established EV-DO service in the Memphis area, we have expanded our service beyond Arlington, Bartlett, Collierville, Cordova, Germantown, Lakeland, Millington, Olive Branch and Southaven to neighboring DeSoto and Crittenden counties," said Jerry Fountain, Carolinas/Tennessee region president for Verizon Wireless. "When customers travel to neighboring towns around Memphis, they will have access to our high-speed data connection on their laptops and PDAs and access Verizon Wireless' exclusive V CAST Music services on their handsets."
Verizon Wireless was the first national wireless provider to commercially launch a high-speed wireless broadband network in the United States, and the company's EV-DO network reaches more than 200 million Americans. In 2006, Verizon Wireless invested over $200 million to build, maintain and expand Tennessee's network, and since 2003, the company has spent $430 million to ensure network reliability and expanded coverage and capacity.
