Verizon Wireless Activates Second Temporary Cell Site Bringing Wireless Communications To Base Camp For Firefighters And Emergency Crews Battling Wildfires In Boundary Waters Area Of Minnesota

Verizon Wireless has been called upon by the Minnesota State Forest Office to provide vital communications to first responders battling the 59,611-acre Ham Lake fire along the Gunflint Trail in northeastern Minnesota.
The company's network team has activated two mobile cell sites providing critical wireless communications to the Incident Command Post Base Camp as well as the Gunflint Lodge area and provided forty cellphones for wireless communications to firefighters.
The first mobile cell site, activated Friday, May 11 in the morning, is located at Gunflint Tower on the Gunflint Trail and provides coverage in the Gunflint Lodge area, which is the staging area for emergency personnel. A second Cell on Light Truck (COLT) was activated this Friday evening three miles west of the Gunflnt Tower site, extending wireless coverage to the Incident Command Post Base Camp for emergency personnel.####
