Verizon Wireless And University Of Hawaii Athletics Team Up To Provide A HopeLine For Victims Of Domestic Violence
HONOLULU, HI — Verizon Wireless, the leading wireless company with the nation's most reliable wireless voice and data network , and University of Hawaii Athletics are teaming up for the third time to help curb domestic violence in our community. Fans attending the Hawaii vs. New Mexico State's women's volleyball game on Friday, Oct. 26 (7:00 pm) are invited to donate used wireless phones and accessories to benefit victims of domestic violence through the Verizon Wireless HopeLine® program. HopeLine drop boxes will be located at the main entrance of the arena from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Fans will receive a free UH t-shirt for every phone donated.
Through the HopeLine program, used wireless phones, batteries and accessories from any service provider are recycled, or refurbished and sold. Verizon Wireless uses the proceeds to award grants and wireless phones with airtime to non-profit human services and law enforcement agencies to aid survivors of domestic violence.
"Verizon Wireless is proud to partner with UH Athletics to help curb domestic violence," said Mark Yamauchi, director of Hawaii sales for Verizon Wireless. "We challenge fans to scour their drawers and closets and donate their old wireless phones and accessories to help us provide a HopeLine to survivors of domestic violence."
The company has donated more than $100,000 in HopeLine grants and wireless phones with airtime to domestic violence agencies in Hawaii during the past two years.
