Mobile Cell Site Sent To The Trigo, New Mexico Fire To Boost Wireless Service

What: Verizon Wireless is deploying a Cell On Wheels to boost wireless coverage and capacity for emergency crews battling the Trigo Fire in Mountainair, New Mexico.

When/ Where: COW and network technicians en route from Albuquerque to the incident command post in Mountainair. COW expected to be in-service by end of day Friday, May 2, 2008.

Why:Verizon Wireless deploys mobile cell sites to enhance its network when there is a natural disaster or other unplanned event. On April 23, Verizon Wireless deployed a COW to support emergency crews while they were battling the now contained Pepper Fire in southern New Mexico. In the past year, Verizon Wireless has deployed mobile cell sites and other equipment to more than a dozen wildfire incidents around the country. Additionally, the company has provided more than 650 wireless phones with service to aid public safety officials and others.

Network investment:Verizon Wireless has invested more than $245 million in its wireless network in New Mexico and El Paso over the past seven years.
