Verizon Wireless will hold a Hawaiian blessing for a Cell on Wheels (COW) at Kalapana. The COW provides wireless coverage and capacity for emergency crews as well as the 1,000 people a day watching the Kalapana lava flow into the ocean from the Kilauea volcano. Federal, state and local officials have constructed a temporary road, parking lot, and a trail leading down to a lava viewing area.
