Verizon Wireless To Host Operation Safe Child Event At Leray, New York Wal-Mart

WATERTOWN, NY — Verizon Wireless, working in conjunction with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department, will host an Operation Safe Child event at its Wal-Mart kiosk, 25737 US Route 11, in Leray on Friday, September 6. All attending parents and guardians will be provided a free Safe Child ID Card containing the child’s photo, fingerprints and biographical information.

Approximately 800,000 children disappear each year as a result of family abductions, kidnappings, and running away.* It’s important for parents to be prepared in the event that their son or daughter becomes a missing child —Verizon Wireless also feels it’s important to take preventative measures.

The Operation Safe Child program is a New York state-wide initiative, providing parents and guardians a free Safe Child ID Card. The card includes the child’s name, biographical information, a high-resolution photo and the fingerprint image of both index fingers. The card can be carried in a purse or wallet and, in the event a child is missing, can be provided to law enforcement immediately. The time that would otherwise be used to gather information can instead be used to search for the missing child.
