Verizon Wireless & NY Mets Baseball Academy Host Free Clinic For Bronx Children

WHO: 200 Bronx 9-12 year-olds will be guests of Verizon Wireless at a free NY Mets Baseball Academy Clinic and meet former Mets Player Dwight "Doc" Gooden.

WHAT: A free, two-hour baseball clinic, sponsored by Verizon Wireless, for the first 200 Bronx children who register. Registration is now open at three of company's Communications Stores in the Bronx. The free clinic will be held on Sunday, June 21st at Lehman College. Gooden, the 1984 Rookie of the Year and the youngest player ever to receive the Cy Young Award, will participate in the clinic and speak to participants & spectators.

BACKGROUND: Children must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian and will be required to sign a waiver agreement. In addition to Gooden, the clinic will feature current minor league & college level athletes. Children will work through the basic fundamentals and participate in skills training including hitting, fielding, and base running.
