RAMONA, OK — Can you hear me now? In Ramona, the answer is an emphatic “yes.” A new advanced digital cell site located on West 3600 Road is providing improved Verizon Wireless voice, National Access data and Mobile Broadband data coverage to customers in Ramona and along U.S. Hwy. 75. The new cell site was completed in June and represents an investment of more than $150,000 to the area.
The new site utilizes a virtual flow of 3G high-speed wireless broadband (EV-DO Rev. A) technology. This supports more advanced wireless services, such as V CAST – which allows customers to stream video clips, play cutting-edge 3D games and download song tracks over the air; VZ Navigator – a location-based service offering maps, audible driving directions, traffic updates, gas station pricing; and the newest, most reliable Push To Talk technology.
In addition, customers using the company’s Mobile Broadband data service to wirelessly access their e-mail and calendars, the Internet and other information, can expect average download speeds of 600 kilobits per second (kbps) to 1.4 megabits per second and average upload speeds of 500-800 kbps. At those speeds, customers can upload or download a 1 Megabyte e-mail attachment – the equivalent of a small PowerPoint® presentation or a large PDF file – in less than two seconds.
The new site is part of the company’s continuing investment to expand coverage, increase capacity and enhance the quality of its wireless voice and data network throughout the country. Already this year, Verizon Wireless has invested more than $15 million in Oklahoma to advance and expand network capabilities.
