Ubergizmo And Verizon Wireless Bring Eco-Action To Digital Summer 2010 In California

WALNUT CREEK, CA — Verizon Wireless and Ubergizmo invite attendees to go ‘green’ and help curb domestic violence in the community at Digital Summer 2010.

Digital Summer 2010 will bring together the most international, professional and glamorous crowd in San Francisco to celebrate photography, fashion, art and technology. Guests attending the event on Wednesday, August 25, can donate their used wireless phones and accessories to the Verizon Wireless HopeLine® phone recycling program. To attend the event visit http://digitalsummer2010.eventbrite.com/.

“Digital Summer 2010 is all about promoting women, art, technology and sustainability around the world, and we’re excited to partner with Verizon Wireless in this effort,” said Eliane Fiolet, co-founder of Ubergizmo. “We’re encouraging attendees to be eco-chic and bring old phones to be recycled and refurbished.”

Exclusive to and created by Verizon Wireless, HopeLine makes recycling old phones easy. Phones and accessories from any service provider can be dropped off at the company’s Communications Stores or returned by mail by using a postage-paid label. Phones are either refurbished for reuse or recycled in an environmentally sound way under a zero-landfill policy.

“We encourage Digital Summer participants to recycle their old cell phones, batteries and accessories through HopeLine,” said Kevin Zavaglia, Verizon Wireless region president. “This is a simple way to help those in need, while keeping old wireless equipment out of the waste stream.”

Every 5,000 phones that are recycled saves 11,000 kilowatt hours of energy – enough energy to power one U.S. household with electricity for a year.
