BASKING RIDGE, NJ — When it comes to call quality, wireless users in four regions rate Verizon Wireless at the top, according to the J.D. Power and Associates 2010 Wireless Call Quality Performance Study(SM), Volume 2, issued today.

Verizon Wireless scored consistently higher than the industry average in key categories and ranked higher than any other carrier in three regions that cover 29 states and the District of Columbia:

  • Northeast Region, which covers Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont.
  • Mid-Atlantic Region, which covers Delaware, District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia.
  • West Region, which covers Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Iowa, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.
  • Verizon Wireless also tied for the top ranking in the Southeast Region, which covers nine additional states: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee.

Verizon Wireless ranked highest in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic Regions for the 12th consecutive time.

“Customers rely on the Verizon Wireless network to bring their devices to life, to stay connected and to experience the cutting edge of wireless capabilities,” said Tony Melone, senior vice president and chief technical officer of Verizon Wireless. “We invest heavily in our network to ensure that we anticipate customers’ needs today and in the future and continue to provide our customers with the nation’s largest and most reliable wireless network.”

The J.D. Power and Associates study measures call quality among the major U.S. wireless service providers in six regions based on factors that impact overall carrier performance. More than 26,595 wireless phone subscribers were surveyed by J.D. Power and Associates between January and June 2010 about their experiences with dropped calls, static/interference, failed connection on the first try, voice distortion, echoes, no immediate voice mail notification, and no immediate text message notification.
