Phones And Network Support Emergency Crews Near Boulder, Colorado

What:Verizon Wireless engaged its Crisis Response Team (VCRT) to respond to a request from the Rocky Mountain Incident Management Team for additional cell phones and to boost wireless coverage for emergency personnel battling the fire west of Boulder, Colorado.

The Fourmile Canyon fire, which broke out Monday, has driven thousands of residents from their homes and consumed 6,388 acres through Wednesday evening.

Expanding coverage and capacity to existing cell sites in the area enhances wireless coverage so that emergency response teams and other Verizon Wireless customers can make more calls and send more data transmissions.

When:Wednesday, September 8 – Dispatched 50 fully-activated emergency wireless phones.

Where:The Rocky Mountain Incident Management Team command center near Boulder.

Why:Verizon Wireless deploys mobile cell sites – or boosts the call-handling capacity of existing sites – to enhance its network when there is a natural disaster or other unplanned event. Retail Store:Verizon Wireless’ Twenty-Ninth Street store in Boulder has established a free mobile charging station, added extra staff and increased its inventory of phone and device chargers.
