Phones And Network Support Emergency Crews Near Loveland, Colorado

LOVELAND, CO — What: In a second time in a week, Verizon Wireless engaged its Crisis Response Team (VCRT) to respond to a request from local fire authorities for additional cell phones and to boost wireless coverage for emergency personnel battling a new wildfire west of Loveland.

The Reservoir Road Fire began on Sunday west of Loveland and has consumed nearly 700 acres as of Monday morning.

Expanding coverage and capacity to existing cell sites in the area enhances wireless coverage so that emergency response teams and other Verizon Wireless customers can make more calls and send more data transmissions.

When: Sunday, September 12 – A Network Repeater and 15 emergency wireless phones and data devices were dispatched. Repeater was “on-air” within hours of request.

Where: Flatiron Reservoir area west of Loveland, Colorado

Why: Verizon Wireless deploys mobile cell sites – or boosts the call-handling capacity of existing sites – to enhance its network when there is a natural disaster or other unplanned event. In the past year, Verizon Wireless has deployed mobile cell sites and repeaters, dispatched emergency phones and other equipment to wildfire incidents around the country. Last week, the company provided 68 wireless phones, data devices and established a charging station to support emergency crews battling the Fourmile Canyon Fire west of Boulder, Colorado.
