Bills Fans Donate More Than 485 Old Cell Phones To HopeLine From Verizon Program In New York

BUFFALO, NY — Buffalo Bills fans donated more than 485 old cell phones to benefit domestic violence survivors at Verizon Wireless’ 10th annual HopeLine® from Verizon phone collection at last Sunday’s Bills home game. That brings the collection’s ten-year total to more than 6,700 phones donated. Those phones will be recycled or refurbished and sold. Proceeds from the sale of the phones will be used to purchase newer phones for domestic violence survivors and to fund grants and other financial support to domestic violence organizations in the area.

The phone collection capped off a week of HopeLine events with Verizon Wireless and the Bills:

  • Earlier in the week, Bills linebacker and HopeLine spokesperson Andra Davis met with fans and signed autographs at the Verizon Wireless kiosk in the Galleria Mall.
  • That same evening, Verizon Wireless presented a check for $10,000 to the Family Justice Center of Erie County to help fund their new Southtowns Family Center in Orchard Park.
  • Prior to Sunday's game, the company presented HopeLine Awards to Debbie Jaeger of Buffalo and Mary Andol of Utica in recognition of their efforts to end domestic violence in their respective communities. Verizon Wireless will also make $2,500 donations in their names to the Family Justice Center of Erie County and the YWCA of the Mohawk Valley.

Verizon Wireless, a recognized corporate leader in the fight against domestic violence, works to combat domestic violence and raise awareness of the issue through the company’s HopeLine program. Marking its 15th year in 2010, HopeLine today collects wireless phones and accessories from any wireless service provider, and then refurbishes the phones or recycles them in an environmentally friendly way. Proceeds from the HopeLine program benefit victims of domestic violence and non-profit advocacy agencies, providing the essential communication tools of wireless phones and wireless services, and financial grants. Phone donations are accepted at all Verizon Wireless stores across the country. For additional information, please visit
