Verizon Wireless Communications Store In Blue Springs, Missouri Is Going Green

BLUE SPRINGS, MO — The Verizon Wireless Communications Store in Blue Springs is the first in Missouri and one of 55 Verizon Wireless retail stores nationwide to have received Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) certification from the United States Green Building Council (USGBC).

The LEED-certified communications store – located at 901 NE Coronado Drive – optimizes water and energy use, enhances indoor environmental quality and reduces waste through specifications and responsible procurement and construction practices, including:

  • Energy Savings: Less energy consumption thanks to high-efficiency lighting, which is projected to save 12,400 kWh/year. Energy savings and carbon reductions from a energy management system and Energy Star equipment including sales terminals and HVAC system. Estimated 27,800 gallons per year in water-saving through installation of low-flow plumbing fixture
  • Material Reuse: Recycled-content materials used in the store, including ceiling tiles, flooring and display fixtures.
  • Phone Recycling: The store is a collection point for the company’s long-running HopeLineÒ phone recycling program, which collects no-longer-used phones and equipment. The used phones are either refurbished or recycled. With the funds raised from the sale of the refurbished phones, Verizon Wireless donates wireless phones and airtime to domestic violence victims, and provides funding and other contributions to nonprofit domestic violence shelters and prevention programs across the country. Through HopeLine, more than 1.6 million phones have been properly disposed of in an environmentally sound way and more than 200 tons of electronics waste and batteries have been kept out of landfills since 2001. Employees can also recycle paper, glass, plastics and aluminum on-site.
  • Paperless Billing: Customers can save trees by signing up while at the store for My Verizon, enabling them to access their account information online anytime and anywhere. Verizon Wireless’ Green Bill puts account information online, at customers’ fingertips. Customers can view itemized charges on their accounts or make payments all from the website. There’s no need to receive a paper bill in the mail anymore.
