Wilmington, North Carolina, Will Benefit From Verizon Wireless' 4G LTE Network Expansion On March 15

WILMINGTON, NC — On March 15, Verizon Wireless customers in more areas of Wilmington, N.C. can take advantage of Verizon Wireless’ 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) network, the largest 4G LTE network in the country. The following new areas in Wilmington will now have access to Verizon’s 4G LTE:

  • Bolton
  • Calabash
  • Castle Hayne
  • Lake Waccamaw
  • Sandy Creek
  • Sunset Beach
  • US Hwy 74, between Leland and Whiteville
  • Whiteville
  • Wilmington Beach

With Verizon’s 4G LTE network, customers can enjoy the best experience in wireless data usage when they stream video, share music and photos, download files, and surf the Web with speeds up to 10 times faster than Verizon’s 3G network. Verizon Wireless initially launched its 4G LTE in Wilmington on April 21, 2011, and at that time, coverage extended to the Bald Head Island, Boiling Spring Lakes, Bolivia, Carolina Beach, Caswell Beach, Holden Beach, Kirkland, Kure Beach, Masonboro, Murraysville, Myrtle Grove, Oak Island, Ocean Isle Beach, Ogden, Shallotte, Seagate, Silver Lake, Southport, St. James, Sunset Beach, Wrightsboro and Wrightsville Beach areas.

“For more than 10 months, Wilmington residents, small businesses and local officials have been able to experience Verizon’s 4G wireless speeds, and with today’s announcement, even more people in more places can use Verizon’s 4G LTE speeds,” said Jerry Fountain, Verizon Wireless president for the Carolinas and Tennessee region.

In North Carolina, Verizon Wireless currently offers its 4G LTE network in Asheville, Charlotte, Durham, Fayetteville, Greensboro, High Point, Lumberton, Raleigh, Wilmington and Winston-Salem. As of March 15, more than 200 million people in 203 markets across the United States will be able to take advantage of 4G LTE on a wide variety of devices, including the new DROID 4 by Motorola and the DROID RAZR™ MAXX™ by Motorola. Details on available devices can be found at www.verizonwireless.com/4GLTE and information on plans and pricing is available at www.verizonwireless.com/plans.

In real-world, fully loaded network environments, 4G LTE customers should experience average data rates of 5 to 12 megabits per second (Mbps) on the downlink and 2 to 5 Mbps on the uplink. When customers travel outside of a 4G LTE coverage area, 4G LTE devices automatically connect to Verizon Wireless’ 3G network, enabling customers to stay connected from coast to coast.
