Verizon Wireless Keeps Race Fans Connected At The Food City 500

BRISTOL, TN — As race fans set up camp in Bristol, Tenn. for the Food City 500, Verizon Wireless is preparing for the inevitable spike in network traffic that will accompany the crowd. To ensure race-goers and tailgaters enjoy a consistent wireless experience, Verizon network technicians have deployed a Cell On Wheels (COW) unit and a Cell on Light Truck (COLT) to Bristol Motor Speedway for the race weekend. The mobile cell sites will boost voice coverage, as well as 3G and 4G LTE data network coverage, to ensure uninterrupted connectivity and data speeds for Verizon Wireless subscribers.

“The Food City 500 is a huge event in Bristol, and we know there will be a lot of race fans making calls to meet up with friends, sending picture messages and browsing the Internet on their wireless devices throughout the weekend,” said Terry Dison, Verizon Wireless network director. “We invest in our Tennessee network continually, but for an event this big, we take our preparations to the next level to provide a superior wireless experience for our customers.”

A COW unit has a 75-foot telescoping antenna and 13 dedicated voice and high-speed data channels to handle thousands of calls and data transmissions simultaneously. A COLT is a mobile cell site able to process thousands of calls every hour. The two units will enhance coverage for phone calls, 3G and 4G LTE data usage, and text messaging.

Deploying mobile cell sites for enhanced network coverage at Bristol Motor Speedway is part of Verizon Wireless’ ongoing commitment to enhance the quality of its wireless voice and data network in Tennessee.
