Green Technology Showcased at Santa Barbara Event

With Verizon’s plug-in hybrid electric Chevy Volt in tow and information on Verizon Wireless’ cell phone recycling Trade-In and HopeLine programs, Verizon displayed its commitment to a more sustainable future at the recent Santa Barbara Earth Day Festival at Alameda Park in Calif.

Widely acknowledged as the birthplace of Earth Day and the modern environmental movement, Santa Barbara once again played host to the latest in green technologies and products, an Eco-Market Place and vendors with cool, sustainable gadgets and household goods.

The two-day festival featured one of Verizon’s Chevy Volts and other alternative-fuel vehicles. Verizon’s participation highlighted the company’s daily commitment to operate more efficiently, conserve resources and to help create more sustainable communities.

The company now operates 102 Verizon Wireless stores that have received the ENERGY STAR certification and 75 that have received the US Green Building Council’s LEED® certification for leadership in energy and environmental design. In 2011, Verizon recycled more than one million wireless phones through the HopeLine program.
