Verizon Wireless Brings Its 4G LTE Network To Western Virginia On May 17

LAUREL, MD — Verizon Wireless will bring its 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) network to 28 new markets, including the towns of Staunton, Waynesboro and Harrisonburg, Virginia, starting Thursday, May 17, enabling customers to take advantage of the nation’s largest 4G LTE network. With the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network, customers can enjoy the best experience in wireless data usage when they stream video, share music and photos, download files and surf the Web with speeds up to 10 times faster than before.

This expansion of the company’s current 4G LTE footprint will extend coverage north along Interstate 81 from Roanoke to Harrisonburg, bringing coverage to Augusta and Rockingham Counties, including the towns of Staunton, Waynesboro, Timberville, Broadway, Elkton and Mount Crawford.

In addition to introducing its 4G LTE network in 28 new markets, including Staunton, Waynesboro and Harrisonburg, Virginia and surrounding communities, Verizon Wireless is expanding the network in 11 markets across the United States on May 17. With the new and expanded markets, the company’s 4G LTE network will be available in 258 markets, to more than two-thirds of the U.S. population.

“We’re proud to extend the power of the nation’s fastest 4G LTE network to western Virginia,” said Mike Maiorana, president of Verizon Wireless’ Virginia/Maryland/Washington, DC region. “With the 4G LTE network, local residents can leverage the speed and connectivity offered by our 4G LTE devices to push the boundaries of communication.”

4G LTE Devices, Solutions and Plans

Verizon Wireless customers can choose from the largest selection of 4G LTE devices, including smartphones, tablets, mobile hotspots and more, that connect to the nation’s fastest 4G network. Most recently, the company announced the DROID INCREDIBLE 4G LTE by HTC, available in the coming weeks, which enhances the customer experience by offering high-quality photo and audio capabilities, combined with the power of 4G LTE speeds. Details on available devices can be found at and information on plans and pricing is available at

Verizon Wireless also recently introduced HomeFusion™ Broadband, a solution that leverages the power and speed of the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network to deliver high-speed, in-home Internet access for residential broadband, particularly in areas where Internet options are limited or are not currently available.

4G LTE Coverage and Speed

In real-world, fully loaded network environments, Verizon Wireless 4G LTE customers should experience average data rates of 5 to 12 megabits per second (Mbps) on the downlink and 2 to 5 Mbps on the uplink.

When customers travel outside of a 4G LTE coverage area, 4G LTE devices automatically connect to Verizon Wireless’ 3G network, enabling customers to stay connected from coast to coast. Verizon Wireless’ 3G network is the most reliable high-speed data network in the country and allows customers in 3G coverage areas who purchase 4G LTE devices today to take advantage of 4G LTE speeds when the faster network becomes available in their area, or when they travel to areas already covered by 4G LTE.
