Apps to Make Learning a Breeze This Summer

Summer learning loss for school-aged children is a long-standing problem. According to the National Summer Learning Association, research shows students typically score lower on standardized tests at the end of summer vacation than they do on the same tests at the beginning of the summer.  This probably doesn’t come as a surprise to many parents or caregivers who know first-hand how tough it is to get a child to crack open a book or tackle a math problem with the lazy days of summer upon on us. Fortunately, technology can help infuse a little bit of learning during those long road trips or relaxing days at the beach or by the pool. Regardless of the child’s age or subject matter, an array of applications exist that will help children learn in a fun and interactive way.   Students can tackle their summer reading list with ebooks, making it easy and convenient to finish the reading assignments on time. Those interested in keeping up on spelling might try A Spelling Bee Challenge, a multiple choice trivia game that ranges from easy to challenging with words chosen from the National Spelling Bee competitions.  For those interested in sharpening their math skills on their smartphone or tablet, try Einstein Math Academy to reinforce addition, subtraction, multiplication or division skills at three levels of difficulty.
