UPDATE: Check out Vice President Biden's recently launched public service announcement in support of his 1 is 2 Many campaign.
At a White House event last week, Vice President Biden unveiled a new PSA on dating violence, featuring President Obama and several prominent athletes like Jimmy Rollins, David Price and others. The PSA was released in support of Biden’s 1 is 2 Many campaign, which uses technology to raise awareness and help end dating violence and sexual assault among teens and young adults.
The Vice President and other Senior Administration leaders attended the unveiling, along with community supporters and influential sports figures. Representatives of Verizon Wireless and the Verizon Foundation were invited to attend the event because of the company’s longstanding support of efforts to end domestic violence.
Vice President Biden stressed the importance of spreading the word that abuse is never acceptable. He also said having the message come from athletes teens admire and respect will give the message even greater impact.
Since the passage of the Violence Against Women Act in 1994, rates of domestic and dating violence have decreased more than 50 percent. However, young women ages 16 – 24 still experience the highest rates of sexual assault, according to the U.S. Department of Justice Bureau of Justice Statistics.
