HOUGHTON, MI — Verizon Wireless has activated three new 4G LTE cell sites in the Upper Peninsula, which brings American’s fastest and most reliable 4G network to the areas surrounding Houghton, Mich. and along U.S. Highway 41 directly north of Calumet, Mich.
The new cell sites, each of which is equipped with a permanent backup generator for times of emergency, empower more Verizon Wireless users with 4G LTE smartphones, laptop modems, hotspots and tablets to take advantage of blazing fast speeds for social networking, Internet browsing, downloading apps, exchanging email and text, picture and video messaging. In real-world, fully-loaded network environments, 4G LTE users should experience average data rates of 5 to 12 megabits per second (Mbps) on the downlink and 2 to 5 Mbps on the uplink.
“Our customers rely on their wireless devices for virtually all of their communication needs,” said T.J. Fox, region president, Verizon Wireless. “But today it’s about more than just talking, it’s about connecting, be it with a smartphone, tablet or mobile broadband, through a text message, email or social networking site. Our 4G LTE network allows customers to connect faster and more fully, no matter how they want to use their wireless device.”
Verizon Wireless introduced its 4G LTE network in late 2010. The network is currently available in more than 337 markets across the country. The company is on track to meets its goal of covering more than 400 U.S. markets by the end of 2012. In Wisconsin, Verizon Wireless has already launched 4G LTE high-speed services in Appleton, Fond du Lac, Green Bay, Kenosha, Madison, Milwaukee, Oshkosh, Racine, Sheboygan, Wisconsin Dells and many surrounding communities.
