WORTHINGTON, MN — Verizon Wireless customers will be able to experience the blazing fast speeds and capabilities of the company’s 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) network in the Worthington, Minn. area when the service launches there on Thursday, Aug. 16. The introduction of the company’s 4G LTE network is part of Verizon Wireless’ announcement today introducing its 4G LTE network in 34 new markets, including the Worthington area and expansion in 38 other markets. The nation’s largest 4G LTE network will be available in a total of 371 markets and cover more than 75 percent of the U.S. population, including major metropolitan areas, small cities and many suburbs.
Customers who live in or visit the following southwestern Minnesota communities will now have access to the nation’s fastest 4G network: Adrian, Brewster, Edgerton, Jackson, Lakefield, Lamberton, Luverne, Mountain Lake, Pipestone, Sleepy Eye and Worthington. Verizon Wireless also is launching new 4G LTE coverage in the greater Mankato area of southern Minnesota – which will provide contiguous 4G coverage on Interstate 90 from the South Dakota border to Fairmont. And, in an expansion of the greater Minneapolis-Saint Paul market, the 4G LTE network will extend south along Interstate 35 to Northfield, Faribault and Owatonna. “Now in more areas of southern Minnesota, Verizon Wireless customers with 4G LTE smartphones, tablets and other devices, will be able to stay in touch uploading, downloading and connecting online, all with speeds up to 10 times faster than before,” ssaid Seamus Hyland, president-Great Plains Region, Verizon Wireless “Since we launched our 4G LTE network in the Minneapolis-Saint Paul area with the first markets in the country on Dec. 10, 2010, we have continued to expand across the state, to provide our customers with the best wireless experience possible.” 4G LTE Coverage and SpeedIn real-world, fully loaded network environments, Verizon Wireless 4G LTE customers should experience average data rates of 5 to 12 megabits per second (Mbps) on the downlink and 2 to 5 Mbps on the uplink. When customers travel outside of a 4G LTE coverage area, 4G LTE devices automatically connect to Verizon Wireless’ 3G network, enabling customers to stay connected from coast to coast. Verizon Wireless’ 3G network is the most reliable high-speed data network in the country and allows customers in 3G coverage areas who purchase 4G LTE devices today to take advantage of 4G LTE speeds when the faster network becomes available in their area, or when they travel to areas already covered by 4G LTE.
