Seahawks QB Russell Wilson And Verizon Wireless Ask Seattle Students To Stop Texting & Driving

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson and Verizon Wireless, operator of the largest 4G LTE network in the U.S. are challenging students at four Seattle High Schools to join him in taking the pledge against texting and driving.

WHAT:                     The “Save it Seattle” contest asks students to take a personal pledge against texting and driving. Wilson will meet and greet students at the school with the most pledges this January.

WHERE:                   Chief Sealth, Franklin, Roosevelt, West Seattle High Schools

HOW:                         High School Pledge Form: Schools will collect paper forms from students

Online Pledge Form: Faculty, friends & family can pledge on behalf of their school by visiting

WHY:                         40% of American teens have been in a car when the driver used a cell phone in a way that put people in danger. (Pew Research)

11% of drivers under age 20 involved in fatal crashes were reported as distracted. This age group has the largest proportion of distracted drivers. (

WHEN:                      Contest runs until December 19, 2012

MEDIA OPPORTUNITY:Russell Wilson will be available for media interviews on Thursday, December 6th between,12:15-12:45 p.m. at the Seahawks Practice Facility.
