4G LTE Continues to Grow and Support Innovation

4G LTE is being used in many unique and interesting ways, in large part due to its wide availability in big cities, small towns and rural areas. By enabling innovative solutions across a number of industries, the network is transforming the lives of its users.

With the availability of the high-speed 4G LTE network in remote areas of the country, researchers can utilize live streaming to collect data in ways they never could before. In northern Minnesota, researchers are accessing live, high-definition video footage using 4G LTE to monitor bears, revealing periods of their lives that were previously unobserved. From these videos, which show mama bears and their newborn cubs, scientists have learned new details about hibernation, pregnancy and cub rearing – helping them understand more about these creatures than ever before.

For businesses, solutions like the Golden-i from Kopin Corporation allow users to interact with virtual surroundings and access important information while keeping their hands free. This product can connect field personnel such as firemen or technicians with their home base to bring expertise quickly to the field – whether they’re around the corner or miles away.

Consumers can benefit in their everyday lives as well from the widespread deployment of 4G LTE. New products bring high-speed Internet access into homes in suburban and rural areas. With the new, portable Verizon 4G LTE Router, jointly developed with Netgear, and the residential broadband solution HomeFusion Broadband, consumers can take advantage of the 4G LTE network for their home Wi-Fi signal with greater speeds than available from many local Internet providers.

Continuing to expand 4G LTE availability throughout the country, Verizon Wireless today launched the network in five new markets: El Centro, Calif.; Fort Dodge, Iowa; Middlesboro/Harlan and Paducah, Ky.; and East Liverpool, Ohio. Verizon Wireless 4G LTE service is now available to 287 million people in 491 markets across the U.S.
