Some of the best concerts of the year take place in the summer, as evidenced by music festival mainstays such as Bonnaroo earlier this summer and Lollapalooza, which is beginning today in Chicago. Although the end of the summer music season is approaching, there is still time to catch a performance or two and share photos and videos with friends, all on a mobile device.

At one time, music lovers learned about concerts by browsing listings or through word of mouth. Now, fans look up the latest tour dates instantly through apps like Timbre, which lets users search for upcoming performances in any city and features the ability to share concert information with friends or buy tickets. The app also plays clips from different artists, making it possible to discover new music.

With Verizon Wireless’ high-speed 4G LTE network, available in 500 markets across the United States, music aficionados can buy concert tickets quickly without worry of ending up empty-handed because of slowly loading websites or lack of computer access. Experts project continued growth in mobile ticketing, with 23 billion mobile tickets delivered by 2016. For audiophiles on the go, ticket outlets such as LiveNation offer mobile ticketing apps that allow users to purchase tickets and save them right on their phones.

Mobile devices also help fans capture, share and make the most of the concert experience itself. With the Samsung Galaxy S4, concertgoers can shoot both of the device’s cameras simultaneously to record the show and the crowd, and then organize videos and photos with the Story Album feature or share them wirelessly with Group Play. Plus, attendees can avoid getting lost in the crowd with Glympse, an app that allows users to share their current location with friends.
