VGo Aids “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”

The 4G LTE-enabled VGo telepresence robot connects people to information and opportunities previously unavailable because of their physical locations. It has allowed children across the country to visit the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium without leaving their classrooms and enabled veterans in Hamilton, Ohio, to talk directly with political leaders at a conference in Florida.  

The VGo robotic telepresence unit was one of the first solutions showcased at the Verizon Innovation Center when it opened in 2011. The product, now available commercially, is also used by medical professionals to monitor patients from afar. Using the device over Verizon Wireless’ 4G LTE network, medical personnel can check in to see how a patient is progressing, provide instructions and ask questions through a virtual face-to-face conversation, without the patient having to come into the office.

Now, the VGo robot has made its way into pop culture. Recently on an episode of the hit TV show Marvel’s “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” field agent Phil Coulson used VGo to communicate with agents on a mission in Hong Kong.

VGo is one of a number of products from Verizon’s Innovation Program that will be showcased on “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” Other items to be highlighted include the Kopin Golden-i and Blueforce. The Kopin Golden-i is a wireless hands-free, mobile computing and communications headset that provides a full PC experience and is operated by speech recognition and natural gestures. Blueforce sensors capture geo-location, network-location and health data to provide tactical information to the user.
