There is also a wide range of mobile apps to guide holiday meal planning, including recipes from celebrity chefs that help make it feel like Mom is there for every chop, dash and timer ding. Holiday Recipes & Party Planning Guide by Food52 allows chefs to plan holiday menus, create grocery lists and view detailed cooking video tutorials, while Food Network In The Kitchen features holiday recipes from top Food Network chefs. Users can browse recipes by seasonal collections or ingredients to create photo-worthy holiday fare.

For foolproof cooking advice, the How to Cook Everything app provides how-to illustrations for equipment, techniques, ingredients and measurements. This helps ensure that the at-home chef doesn’t miss an important step while making the perfect holiday dinner.

People who plan to use their smartphones or tablets as their cookbooks should take precautions. The report also found that 19 percent of cooks smudge their smartphones, and 38 percent dust their tablets with food ingredients. Before starting, chefs can kitchen-proof their mobile devices with a display protector or case to prevent water damage, grease smudges and other ingredient-induced harm that could keep them from making the most of their mobile devices in the kitchen.

Happy holiday feasting!
