Each week, arenas across the U.S. reverberate with the sounds of sports entertainment: ring entrance music, catchphrase chants and thunderous pyrotechnics. Audiences in more than 150 countries tune in to experience larger-than-life athletes and engaging storylines. This action-packed global phenomenon is World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE)’s brand of professional wrestling.

While many people consider pro wrestling nostalgic, WWE has evolved to be very tech- and social media-savvy. Today’s fans – known collectively as the WWE Universe – congregate on Twitter and start topics that trend worldwide. In turn, wrestlers will tweet to blur the line between scripted and reality. It makes for a fun, inclusive and interactive era, and it’s about to climb to the next level with the help of digital and wireless technology.

WWE announced at CES 2014 the launch of WWE Network, a 24/7 streaming video on-demand service. WWE Network gives fans unfettered access to a vast library of past, present and future content, including live pay-per-view events. WWE Network is available on Android and iOS smartphones and tablets, so fans can see WrestleMania XXX on their smartphone or re-live Hulk Hogan vs. The Iron Sheik on their tablet. More than 1,500 hours of video on demand will be available at launch.

Also available for wrestling fans is a variety of podcasts by the pros. Superstars such as Stone Cold Steve Austin, Chris Jericho and Good Ol’ J.R. share entertaining behind-the-scenes anecdotes and insightful interviews with top talent via the podcast series.

Even those who have missed a decade or two can dive back into the over-the-top drama on their mobile devices.

As "The Texas Rattlesnake" likes to say, “And that’s the bottom line...”
