Network Revved Up For Season’s First IndyCar Series Race

The Verizon IndyCar Series gets the green flag at the Grand Prix of Saint Petersburg this weekend, and Verizon Wireless network technicians are tuning up the company’s network to help provide top wireless performance for fans of the sleek, sophisticated motorsport.

Along the scenic race route beside Tampa Bay, network teams have enhanced cell sites with Advanced Wireless Services (AWS) technology, which boosts wireless bandwidth in areas of high demand.

This means more globe-trotting fans, visiting media and locals can enjoy high-speed 4G LTE data on their smartphones, tablets and other wireless devices to send pictures and texts, post tweets, search for and watch news on their favorite drivers, and access the INDYCAR 14 app or IndyCar website.

Visitors will enjoy enhanced 4G LTE coverage at certain area hotels, which have been equipped with high-tech in-building Distributed Antenna System (DAS) technology. A DAS consists of a base station and hundreds of small antennas distributed throughout a structure.

Other special network deployments include a mobile trackside Cell on Light Truck (COLT), as well as a large microwave relay satellite dish on the roof of the nearby Salvador Dali Museum.

“Open-wheel race fans have very discerning technology tastes and expectations,” said Mariano Legaz, president of Verizon’s Florida region. “IndyCar and Verizon have teamed up to deliver innovation and performance for the first race here in Saint Pete and throughout the series.”
