Have an old scanner gathering dust on your desk? Go ahead and sell it at your next garage sale, because there are enough free and cheap scanner apps for mobile phones and tablets that the average person might never need a clunky classic scanner again. Apps like CamScanner (Android/iOS/iPAD/Windows) and InstaPDF (iOS/web) have free versions, and if you want a few more features you can go with a paid app like Scanner Pro ($6.99, iOS/iPad.) All can scan your documents and receipts, clean up the text for readability, and save as a pdf if needed (some can do much more.) Saying goodbye to the clutter of a barely-used scanner: just one more benefit of the mobile revolution.
