Up until now, wearables needed to be paired with a smartphone to take full advantage of their features. Today, the Samsung Gear S™, first wearable with network connectivity, launches on the Verizon Wireless network.
The Samsung Gear S is now available online and in Verizon Wireless stores for $349.99 with new two-year activation. The device is available in White and Black color models. Users will be able to add Gear S to their existing MORE Everything accounts for an additional $5 monthly access fee.
Having network connectivity on a wearable changes the way you use it. You no longer need to have your smartphone with you every moment to use the Gear S. You can go out for a run, take care of some quick errands, and even just be around the office without having your phone in your pocket and still be connected. Gear S requires pairing with a compatible Samsung smartphone.
With its network connectivity and 2-inch curved display, Gear S allows you to make and receive calls, send texts, check social media, and get GPS directions – all without needing your phone or pulling it out of your pocket. You also have the option of either speaking or typing out texts, emails, and social media postings by using S Voice™ or the full QWERTY keyboard.
The Gear S can also track your workouts, monitor heart rate, and map your runs using the S Health™ and Nike+ apps. Gear S also lets you listen to songs from the MILK Music™ app, powered by Slacker, right from your wrist. And to make sure the Gear S survives everyday life, it has anIP67 rated for dust- and water-resistance.
