As thousands of basketball fans from across the country gathered in the Big Apple this weekend, Verizon Wireless engineers were behind the scenes working tirelessly to ensure that network enhancements would keep New Yorkers, hoops fans and visitors connected all weekend long.
For the first time, basketball fans gathered at not one, but two state-of-the-art arenas. Fans showed their love for the sport through their mobile device on Verizon Wireless’ powerful network.
Verizon Wireless, who both nationally and in the state of the New York was the overwhelming network performance leader in the rankings of U.S. wireless providers determined by RootMetrics®, never stops investing in its network. In 2014,Verizon Wireless invested $9.9 billion in the network, including more than $460 million in the New York Metro region.
Leading up to this weekend, Verizon Wireless expanded capacity at 12 4G LTE and XLTE cell sites serving both arenas, major venues and hotels in Brooklyn and Manhattan. They also built cell sites, small cell systems, indoor and outdoor Distributed Antenna Systems and planned deployment of mobile cell sites. Additionally, a team of seven Verizon network engineers monitored the network performance at both arenas in real-time to keep customers seamlessly connected.
