What you’ll be doing...

The Tier III Security Engineer is a member of the Verizon Security Operations Center (SOC) team. This is a technical resource for in-depth security device incident resolution and emergency changes for one of our largest enterprise customers. The Tier III Security Engineer will develop an understanding of the specifics of the customer’s security architecture and will be serving as an escalation point to our customers and Tier II Security team for complex incidents or changes. Tier III Security Engineers are experts in their fields, whether change management or incident management. In this position the Tier III Security will be supporting the SOC customers as an expert on security products and services.

Specific tasks will include the following:

  • Taking ownership of assigned tasks, resolve tasks within a reasonable amount of time and track task to resolution.
  • Working with the various enterprise security device manufacturers to resolve complex incidents, replace defective hardware and receive software patches/fixes to resolve incidents.
  • Working with Tier II resources as required to resolve complex incidents.
  • Using their advanced technical knowledge of enterprise security devices; Firewalls, Load Balancers, Application Proxy servers, Web Application Firewalls and Enterprise management tools such as Provider-1, NSM, BlueCoat Director, etc.
  • Interpreting, operating, configuring and troubleshooting firewalls, load balancers, remote access, and application proxies at an advanced level.
  • Regularly attending customer meetings, reviewing and understanding documented processes, updating process documents, providing peer-to-peer training and interaction with high level Verizon and customer managers.
  • Participating on Change Management to include; creating/updating/closing change request, reviewing submitted change form, staging/implementing change and troubleshooting failed changes.
  • Creating personal performance objectives/goals to align with corporate objectives.
  • Performing other duties as required.

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or relevant experience.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Knowledge of firewall functionality. This includes but is not limited to: Checkpoint (IPSO, NG, R65-R75, Cisco (PIX/FWSM/ASA), Juniper (SRX, ISG, NetScreen, etc.), Palo Alto, Fortinet, Zscaler, etc.
  • Knowledge of fCaching/Proxy/AV devices. This includes but is not limited to: Bluecoat, Cisco, NetCache, etc.
  • Knowledge of Global/Local load balancing devices. This includes but is not limited to: F5 (LTM, ASM, 3DNS), Cisco CSS, Alteon, Redline, etc.
  • Knowledge of VPN devices. This includes but is not limited to: Juniper, Cisco, etc.
  • Knowledge of SSL devices. This includes but is not limited to: Alteon (Accelerators), Juniper, etc.
  • Knowledge of Enterprise Management tools. This includes but is not limited to: Provider-1, Enterprise Manager, CSM, etc.
  • Knowledge of networking technologies, e.g. Cisco routers and switches.
  • Experience in working with TCP/IP, Ethernet networks and troubleshooting tools (TCP dump, Trace route, etc.).
  • Knowledge of Internet protocols such as UDP, ICMP, DNS, SMTP, POP, HTTP, and SNMP.
  • ITIL level knowledge.

  • Checkpoint CCSA/CCSE.
  • Juniper Certification (JNCIA-FWV).
  • Linux/Unix skills.
  • F5 Essential/Advance Certifications.
  • Proxy Certifications (BlueCoat, Redline, NetCache).
  • Cisco Security certifications (CCNP).
  • Cisco Network certifications (CCNP).
  • Palo Alto certifications.
  • Fortinet certifications.
