What you’ll be doing...

You will be part of a dynamic team that works with the latest technology to provide our customers access to our many network services including 5G advanced systems. You will be performing a technical role including guiding the design, planning and overseeing the execution of your plan. These initiatives will require a skill set including, router knowledge, fiber optics experience and the passion to learn and expand your knowledge.

  • Working with RF and Implementation teams to select, secure and engineer Hub locations.
  • Providing design and implementation support for data routers, Ethernet backhaul interconnect and other supporting data systems.
  • Providing a roadmap and guidelines for products, features, and hardware configurations to ensure technologically superior, operationally efficient and cost-effective growth and new deployment of systems.
  • Working with East Territory and Headquarters Transport staff to develop new technology transport design and equipment standards for deployment.
  • Designing and managing the installation of both dark and lit Fiber Optic Rings.
  • Working with other groups to forecast and ensure equipment growth projects meet expectant demands.
  • Maintaining an accurate circuit inventory; monitor usage data from the traffic engineering reports and use this data to determine capacity requirements.
  • Developing and tracking capital requirements and forecasting growth.
  • Performing audits of Facility/Transport database for accuracy and provides utilization reports to management. Work in conjunction with Area/HQ planning and transport Teams to engineer and implement inter-Market facilities requirements.
  • Working closely with OEM Vendors, 3rd party DF/Lit providers, and internal teams to identify the best Value (quality, time, and cost).
  • Managing the vendor selection, contract negotiation, RFP and ongoing relationships.
  • Partnering with VZB and the One Fiber team to deliver all solutions in a timely manner.
  • Interfacing regularly with higher levels of the management team across various organizations.

Where you'll be working...

This hybrid role will have a defined work location that includes work from home and assigned office days as set by the manager.

What we’re looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • Associate's degree or two or more years of work experience.
  • Three or more years or relevant work experience.
  • A valid driver's license.
  • Willingness to travel up to approximately 25% of the time.

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

  • Experience in the cellular/ telecommunications industry in an Interconnect engineering role.
  • CCNA /CCNP certification.
  • Experience in Cisco, Ciena and/or ALU/Nokia router configuration.
  • Knowledge of Optical transport systems.
  • Experience in Microsoft Office Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Project.
  • Experience in SevOne traffic data collection system or another traffic statistics reporting package.
  • Experience in troubleshooting, problem solving, project management, and interpersonal skills.
  • Interpersonal and communications skills.
  • Experience in two or more of the following platforms and/or technologies; Ciena 6500 and Fujitsu 950, ALU/Nokia 7705 & 7750 routers, Cisco 920, 903, 5501, 540, Ciena 5164 routers.
